Strict security measures are being implemented at the Coca-Cola Games venue and its surrounding areas to ensure the safety of both students and the public. This three-day secondary school event, the largest of its kind in Fiji, begins tomorrow at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA), in collaboration with the Fiji Police Force and the Ministry of Education, has announced a joint operation aimed at managing traffic, promoting responsible student behavior, and ensuring public safety. According to Gerald Nathan from LTA’s Road Safety Education and Awareness team, compliance with traffic regulations is mandatory, including a ban on flags being displayed outside vehicles, as these can lead to distractions and accidents.
Moreover, public transport operators have been directed not to play loud music, and any students engaged in disruptive behaviors, such as rocking buses or using inappropriate language, will face legal repercussions. Nathan emphasized the importance of supervision, stating that teachers must accompany students when traveling to and from the games. Police operations will focus on monitoring traffic safety and ensuring that any violations are addressed promptly.
This initiative reflects a commitment not only to safety but also to fostering a disciplined and respectful environment among young attendees. The heightened collaboration among authorities mirrors past efforts observed in similar events, which have seen successful implementations of safety and behavioral standards.
In light of the preparations, all stakeholders, including parents and guardians, are encouraged to reinforce the message of responsible behavior to students. “Safety must come first—on the roads, in the buses, and at the games,” Nathan stated, highlighting the importance of a collective effort to ensure a successful and commendable event.
With strong community involvement and rigorous safety measures in place, the Coca-Cola Games are set to provide a thrilling, yet secure experience for participants and spectators alike.
