United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the collaboration between the USA and Fiji in promoting freedom, prosperity, and security in the Pacific in his message for Fiji’s Independence Day.
He extended his warm wishes to the people of Fiji as they mark 54 years of independence on October 10. Blinken noted that since the establishment of bilateral relations, Fiji and the United States have worked together to foster a more free, secure, and prosperous Pacific region.
He highlighted the long-standing friendship which has been instrumental in tackling the climate crisis, addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, managing regional security issues, and advancing economic development.
The recent signing of the United States-Fiji Open Skies Air Transport Agreement was mentioned as a significant step toward improving connectivity and stimulating economic growth between the two nations.
Blinken expressed eagerness to continue building on this positive momentum, reinforcing the partnership to ensure a brighter future for both countries. He concluded by wishing the people of Fiji well on their special day.
