Divisional Commissioner for the Western region, Apolosi Lewaqai, held a meeting today with Manoa Kamikamica, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperative, MSMEs, and Communications. This gathering is part of Lewaqai’s ongoing tour of the western division.
During the discussion, the Commissioner’s office presented an overview of key economic activities currently taking place in the western region, which include sectors such as tourism, sugar production, non-sugar agriculture, mining, bottled water production, international gateways, mini-hydro energy projects, and pine forestry.
The presentation also emphasized significant achievements, including the completion of Rural Housing Assistance programs and community engagement in tackling critical issues such as drug abuse, urban migration, HIV/AIDS, and land disputes.
Additionally, Commissioner Lewaqai discussed the importance of enhancing the Integrated Rural Development Framework (IRDF) to strengthen the coordination responsibilities of Divisional Commissioners.
As part of his visit, DPM Kamikamica is scheduled to engage with various organizations, including the Nadi Town Council, Fiji Airways, Mindpearl Fiji, Challenge Group of Companies Ltd, Michelly Investment Ltd, and Amex Resources (Fiji) Ltd, continuing his second day of touring the western division.
