Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua emphasized the importance of treating every citizen with respect and dignity as the true measure of a nation’s strength, rather than relying solely on military might. Speaking at the 2025 Holi Milan celebration in Suva, he called upon individuals of all faiths and backgrounds to embrace harmony and cultural dignity.
In his address, Tikoduadua expressed gratitude towards the Indo-Fijian community, stating, “You have brought not only colour into Fiji but also discipline, enterprise, music, poetry, and spiritual depth. You have given Fiji part of its soul.” Reflecting on the shared resilience of Fijians, he noted that their history is rich with stories of sacrifice and faith, highlighting the narrative of the Indo-Fijian community as particularly significant.
The Minister discussed his work concerning security and service, asserting that true strength lies in upholding harmony, respect, and cultural dignity. He noted that the essence of Holi exemplifies values such as forgiveness and acceptance of differences, encouraging Fijians to cherish love and unity.
Tikoduadua’s sentiments resonate with his previous advocacy for a collective national identity under the term ‘Fijian,’ a stance he reinforced during past workshops aimed at promoting social cohesion. His messages underline a commitment to inclusivity and mutual respect within Fiji’s diverse cultural framework, fostering an environment where every citizen is valued.
This inspiring message presents a hopeful view of Fiji’s future, where unity in diversity lays the foundation for a harmonious society, leading to overall peace and cooperation among its people. Embracing the richness of each community not only enhances national identity but also contributes positively to the shared aspirations for prosperity in Fiji.
