Two abandoned vessels used for bauxite transportation have been discovered in Naiviqiri, Bua. Local villagers are expressing concerns regarding the environmental hazards these vessels may pose and are calling for urgent measures to resolve the situation.

Filimoni Vosarogo, the Minister for Land and Mineral Resources, stated that the removal of the vessels should have already occurred. He remarked, “I do not have the details at the moment. I’m not sure about the plans the company has, but it’s certainly an eyesore there.”

Vosarogo noted that he had seen the vessels during his ministerial tour of the North last year and questioned why they had not yet been removed and if the company had any intentions to do so.

He mentioned that he would engage with the company to discuss their plans for salvaging the vessels. “We will need to be prompt in liaising with the company just to find out what their plans are,” he added.
