Passengers aboard the Lady Daya faced a distressing experience when they were unexpectedly asked to disembark at Narayan Jetty in Walu Bay, Suva, leaving them stranded overnight. Many travelers from the Western Division shared their frustrations regarding the lack of food, accommodation, and information about the vessel’s schedule after abrupt disembarkation.
After awaiting updates since 8 PM, some passengers like 79-year-old Ratu Ilitomasi Verenakadavu had to endure a difficult night, trying to rest in uncomfortable conditions. Ratu Ilitomasi revealed, “We didn’t know where to go. Many of us had to sleep on the ground with no proper arrangements made for us.”
Compounding their frustration, several passengers were forced to leave essential items and belongings on board the Lady Daya, as the vessel departed shortly after they were asked to leave. The affected passengers are now calling on authorities to take immediate action to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
Fiji One News has reached out to Goundar Shipping for clarification on the matter but has yet to receive a response.
This unfortunate situation highlights the importance of communication and contingency planning in the transportation sector, particularly in times of unforeseen circumstances.
