A forty-five-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison by the High Court in Suva for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter on multiple occasions. He was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
The court acquitted the man of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. The incidents occurred between January 1, 2020, and December 31, three years ago.
Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull, during the sentencing, ordered that the victim’s name be permanently suppressed.
“The existing interim domestic violence restraining order against you is made permanent for the protection of the victim,” Justice Bull stated.
