Amidst the sunny weather on New Year’s Eve in Fiji, the Fiji Red Cross Society is emphasizing the importance of community vigilance concerning the increased risk of climate-sensitive diseases in the Western Division, following recent flooding.
Diseases such as leptospirosis, typhoid, dengue fever, and diarrhoea (LTDD) often see a rise in incidence during and after flood events. Ragigia Dawai, the director-general of the Fiji Red Cross Society, highlighted the heightened risk of diseases in the aftermath of the flooding and urged residents to take crucial preventive measures to safeguard their health and that of their families.
Over the past three days, the society has assessed 75 households and reached out to over 295 people in the affected region, providing necessary assistance.
