As the festive season approaches, the public is urged to prioritize safety. The Fiji Police Force has initiated its safety operations nationwide, starting Friday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that safety should be a primary concern for everyone, regardless of their activities. He stated, “We want to remind everyone to be mindful of their safety when traveling on the road, shopping, picnicking by the sea, or enjoying time with friends.”
To bolster safety, there will be an increased police presence, but Driu highlighted that individual responsibility is crucial. “Safety starts with each individual,” he reiterated.
Additionally, the police will collaborate with stakeholders to monitor movements, particularly on the roads. Driu expressed the force’s desire for an incident-free festive season and called on the public for support, stating, “Police cannot do this alone; we need your support. Help us keep everyone safe, whether on the roads, out at sea, in towns and cities, or at home with family and friends.”
Expect to see heightened police visibility in various areas, including towns, cities, roads, highways, communities, picnic spots, schools, and businesses.
This proactive approach underscores a collective commitment to ensuring a joyful and safe festive season for all. By working together and remaining vigilant, the community can enjoy the celebrations with peace of mind, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and safety during this special time of year.
