The Land Transport Authority is urging all road users nationwide to exercise caution due to the severe weather conditions currently affecting numerous regions, including heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized the serious risks these weather phenomena pose to road safety and called for heightened awareness among both drivers and pedestrians.

Rokosawa stated, “The intense rainfall and possible flooding impacting many areas necessitate increased vigilance from all road users. The combination of heavy rain, diminished visibility, and flooded streets can lead to dangerous situations.” He stressed the importance of prioritizing safety and advised against unnecessary travel, particularly in areas susceptible to flooding. If travel is essential, individuals should stay informed about weather updates and road closures while remaining alert to any sudden changes in conditions.

Despite the adverse weather, Rokosawa expressed concern that some drivers are disregarding safety measures by speeding and navigating through floodwaters irresponsibly, thus endangering themselves and others. He affirmed that the Authority is prepared to impose penalties on those who violate traffic laws, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving behaviors.

Rokosawa provided several safety recommendations for drivers: adhere to posted speed limits, adjust driving according to the weather conditions, maintain safe following distances, utilize headlights during poor visibility, avoid overtaking unless necessary, and plan for potential delays due to adverse weather.

The Authority remains committed to ensuring public safety while these challenging weather conditions persist, reinforcing the message that everyone must play a role in keeping roads safe.

In summary, the Land Transport Authority is encouraging a collaborative approach to road safety amidst severe weather. By taking precautions and remaining informed, road users can contribute to safer travels during these challenging times. This proactive stance highlights the importance of community responsibility in protecting one another on the roads.
