Stay Safe: Fiji Police Caution Public Ahead of Eventful Weekend

The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend of events approaches.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu stated that major conferences and gatherings throughout the week have mostly been free of incidents. However, as festivities increase and more people gather in major cities and towns, the focus of police operations will shift accordingly.

ACP Driu warned that opportunistic criminals may take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere, emphasizing the importance of being vigilant. Common targets for theft include car break-ins, pickpocketing, and personal belongings such as bags, wallets, purses, and mobile phones.

He also issued a strong warning to drug dealers, indicating that law enforcement will intensify efforts against illegal drug trade across all five policing divisions.

Additionally, homeowners are reminded to take precautions to secure their properties at all times, while vehicle owners should not become complacent about car security. ACP Driu advised against leaving keys in the ignition, doors unlocked, or windows down, as these actions can facilitate vehicle theft.
