The Land Transport Authority has issued a reminder to all road users nationwide to exercise caution as severe weather, marked by heavy rainfall and flash flooding, continues to affect various regions. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that these challenging conditions pose significant risks to road safety, urging both motorists and pedestrians to remain extra vigilant while traveling.

“With the heavy rain and potential flooding affecting many areas, we advise all road users to stay alert. The combination of intense rainfall, reduced visibility, and flooded roads creates hazardous conditions,” he stated. Rokosawa highlighted the paramount importance of prioritizing safety for everyone on the road.

The Authority has also recommended that the public avoid unnecessary travel, especially through areas prone to flooding. For those who must travel, it is crucial to stay informed about weather warnings and road closures, remaining alert to changing conditions along the way. Drivers should be prepared for sudden road closures or detours and potential dangers, such as fallen debris, washed-out roads, and limited visibility.

Despite the severe weather, concern has been raised over certain drivers who continue to ignore safety risks by speeding and driving recklessly through floodwaters, thus endangering themselves and other road users. The Authority has declared that it will take action against those who violate traffic laws and compromise public safety, applying penalties to deter dangerous driving.

Rokosawa advised drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits, adapt their driving to the weather, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and use headlights during heavy rain or poor visibility. He urged against overtaking unless absolutely necessary and encouraged planning trips with potential weather-related delays in mind.

The Authority remains focused on maintaining public safety amid these adverse weather conditions.

In summary, the Land Transport Authority is actively urging all road users to prioritize safety as heavy rainfall continues to pose significant risks. There is a collective responsibility for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant, act cautiously, and respect shared safety regulations.

This call to action reflects a hopeful outlook on the importance of community awareness and cooperation in navigating challenging weather, reinforcing that safety must always come first.
