The case involving suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde was addressed four days ago, but a hearing date has yet to be determined. Pryde’s lawyer was informed by a tribunal overseeing the case that there is no timeline for when additional affidavits will be completed and served.
In turn, the lawyer conveyed to the tribunal that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) had not responded to inquiries regarding the unilateral suspension of Mr. Pryde’s salary. He emphasized that Pryde’s ability to defend himself is severely impacted by the cessation of his pay, which is hindering his defense.
Mr. Pryde was suspended from his role as DPP in April 2023 due to allegations of misconduct stemming from a conversation he had with former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at an official event. This exchange was interpreted as an act of misconduct.
Following the suspension, a year later, the JSC introduced an additional allegation concerning overpaid superannuation, which Mr. Pryde has denied.
