SSP Warns New Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau Officers

Newly inducted officers of the Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau were reminded today about the importance of maintaining strong ethical standards in a department known for its vulnerabilities worldwide.

The reminder came from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Nasario, Director of the Narcotics Bureau, as he welcomed the new officers.

“Ask any law enforcement agency, and they will tell you that the Narcotics Bureau is always a vulnerable department. This is experienced globally. However, the principles, values, and ethics of the Fiji Police Force remain the same and must never change,” SSP Nasario stated.

He continued, “You will be tested over time. Your principles, values, and ethics will be challenged, so I urge you to remember your duties, those you protect, and why you were chosen.”

Currently, Narcotics Bureau officers are posted in all five policing divisions. Although they face resource challenges, SSP Nasario emphasized the importance of leveraging partnerships and community support.

“More than 90 percent of the population are law-abiding citizens who are concerned and willing to help. Many have provided invaluable information leading to successful drug raids and busts,” he noted.

“The Government and other institutions share the same concern and are willing to act,” he added.

“Our foreign counterparts have been providing guidance, assistance, and support. We are moving forward, tailoring our strategies based on our resources and capabilities, but we will never give up. We will be aggressive and direct in our efforts, and I urge you all to remain steadfast and do your best,” SSP Nasario concluded.
