Splashing water on moving vehicles presents serious risks to road safety, according to Irimaia Rokosawa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Although this practice is often viewed as harmless fun during celebrations, Rokosawa emphasizes the importance of celebrating responsibly and maintaining caution.
“The act of splashing water on vehicles during festive occasions has unfortunately become quite common,” he remarked. “What might seem like playful fun can actually have severe consequences, endangering not just the lives of motorists and passengers but also those of pedestrians.”
Rokosawa pointed out that splashing water at moving vehicles could startle drivers, obstruct their visibility, or cause a loss of control, all of which could lead to serious accidents. He noted, “Distractions from water splashes, even for a moment, can lead to devastating outcomes. Such actions are not merely reckless; they could be life-threatening. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and we all must contribute to keeping our roads safe during the festive season and onwards.”
He also highlighted that incidents of water splashing often involve children and youths, urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children during this festive time.
This call for awareness and caution serves as a reminder that while celebrating, the safety of our roads and communities should remain a priority.
Overall, embracing safe practices during festivities can foster a more enjoyable atmosphere while ensuring the well-being of everyone on the road. It’s a positive step towards a culture of responsibility and care, allowing celebrations to be both joyful and safe for all participants.
