Spain Secures Thrilling WXV 3 Title as Samoa Joins World Cup Quest

Spain secured the WXV 3 title and qualified for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 with a suspense-filled 10-8 victory against Fiji’s Vodafone Fijiana in the United Arab Emirates.

Fijiana full-back Luisa Tisolo had an opportunity to draw the match and grant Samoa the title with a final conversion attempt but missed, leading to jubilant celebrations among the Spanish team. Meanwhile, Samoa earned their spot for the World Cup in England by defeating Madagascar 46-15 the previous day, ensuring they finished at least in second place.

In another match, the Netherlands wrapped up their inaugural tournament with a convincing 33-3 win over Hong Kong China, finishing third overall.

In the clash between Samoa and Madagascar, the latter began as the underdogs. Madagascar took an early lead with a try from Claudia Rasoarimalala, but Cassie Siataga quickly responded for Samoa. Despite being reduced to 13 players shortly after, Samoa maintained control, eventually scoring multiple tries to secure their victory.

As for the Netherlands, even though their World Cup dreams had ended, they ended their tournament on a high note. Linneke Gevers scored the opening try, and despite Hong Kong’s efforts to reduce the deficit, the Dutch secured a dominant performance with additional tries and penalties.

Fiji managed to open the scoring against Spain with a penalty kick from Tisolo. Spain responded with persistent pressure, finally making their breakthrough with a try from Alba Capell. Despite key moments of tension, particularly with a late try from Fiji, Spain held on to claim victory by a narrow margin.
