South Indian Cultural Legacy Honored in Labasa Tribute Event

The Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam honored one of its late members, Chalmaiya Chetty, during the unveiling of his book, ‘South Indian Cultural Book,’ at Subrail Park in Labasa last Friday.

National TISI president Praveen Kumar was handed the first copy of the book by Mr. Chetty’s son, Keswan Chetty.

Chalmaiya Chetty, who hailed from Tabucola, Labasa, was a committed member of the TISI Sangam Labasa and dedicated his life to promoting the Hindi language and its associated traditions.

Keswan Chetty described the book as a resource that provides guidance for South Indian families on leading a life grounded in devotion.

“It serves as a guideline to preserve our South Indian culture,” he commented, expressing gratitude to TISI for choosing this significant occasion to launch his father’s book.

“My father was everything to me; he taught me the importance of embracing my South Indian roots and taking pride in our identity,” he added.

Mr. Kumar emphasized the contributions of devoted individuals like the late Mr. Chetty, calling them the true pillars of the TISI Sangam family, and urged other members to emulate his example.

“This memorial day is meant to inspire the new generation to aspire to his values.”
