Soul-searching: Fijiana’s uphill battle after heavy defeat

The Vodafone Fijiana’s hopes for a back-to-back unbeaten run after their Oceania Championship campaign were shattered following a crushing 5-64 defeat by Australia on Saturday.

The loss highlighted significant discipline issues within Mosese Rauluni’s team, with players Sulita Waisega and Bitila Tawake both receiving yellow cards.

Rugby.com.au reported that Atelaite Buna, assigned the number 13 jersey, did not perform up to expectations. The Fijian Drua fullback, nicknamed the “Bullet,” was outmatched by her opponent, Georgie Friedrichs.

“Friedrichs gave Buna no room to move in her limited attacking opportunities as the vaunted Fijiana attack crumbled,” stated the report.

Additionally, backrower Karalaini Naisewa struggled to replicate her Super W form, with Australia’s loose forward trio effectively neutralizing her.
