After being left out of the 13-member Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team for the upcoming Dubai 7s tournament, Mereani Solevu remains determined to continue her pursuit of a place on the squad. She is focusing on enhancing her fitness as she aims for future opportunities in the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series.
Solevu, who is originally from Vatoa, Bau in Tailevu, recently participated in the Get Into Rugby (GIR) Plus Festival held at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva, where she expressed her commitment to improving her physical condition ahead of the Oceania 7s competition. She encouraged her teammates competing in Dubai to strive for excellence, understanding that the journey to success is often challenging.
She emphasized the importance of unity and resilience within the team, stating, “The only way to strengthen ourselves as a team is through compassion and perseverance.” Although she was part of the training squad leading up to the series, she has remained active in the rugby community, engaging with young players at the festival.
Solevu motivated the youth to dedicate themselves to their training and fitness, which will facilitate their advancement in rugby in Fiji. Her fellow team members are set to face Ireland in their first match at 5:44 PM on November 30.
This reflects not only Solevu’s dedication to her own development but also her commitment to nurturing the next generation of rugby talent in Fiji. Her positivity and proactive approach serve as an inspiration to others in the sport, demonstrating that setbacks can be stepping stones toward future success.
In summary, while Solevu may not be competing in the Dubai tournament, her focus on fitness, team spirit, and inspiring younger players showcases her resilience and unwavering commitment to rugby.
