“Social Media Wars: The Hidden Battle Among Women”

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has expressed concern over the rising number of women displaying animosity towards one another on social media platforms. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counselor and advocate at FWCC, addressed this issue during a live video session on the organization’s social media pages, posing the question: What triggers the disputes and suffering among women engaged in these conflicts?

Tuitabu pointed out that these tensions often arise when one partner is involved with another woman while still in a relationship. Consequently, the women from both parties tend to confront each other publicly, leading to a display of animosity online.

She noted that despite their pain, women often feel compelled to defend their partners, while simultaneously expressing hostility towards the other woman involved. “In these heated moments, women tend to overlook their male counterparts and direct their anger at each other,” Tuitabu explained.

Moreover, she emphasized that the man at the center of the dispute remains largely unaffected by the turmoil between the two women, often manipulating both sides. “When the women clash, one has to wonder who instigated this situation; it is, in fact, the man,” she added. Tuitabu expressed sadness over the fact that these conflicts can culminate in the sharing of images and negative comments about the women involved.
