The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has expressed concern over the rise in hostility among women on social media. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counsellor advocate at FWCC, raised the question during a live video on the organization’s social media platform: “Who instigates the conflicts and emotional pain between women?”
Tuitabu highlighted that such animosity often stems from situations where a partner is involved with another woman while still in a relationship. This results in altercations between the women involved, leading to public displays of animosity on social media.
She noted that while women are deeply hurt, they tend to defend their partners while criticizing the other woman. “During these confrontations, women often overlook their male partners and instead direct their anger toward one another,” Tuitabu commented.
Moreover, she pointed out that the man in these scenarios often remains unscathed and indifferent to the emotional turmoil faced by both women, effectively manipulating the situation. Tuitabu underscored that the source of these disputes is often the man involved.
“It’s distressing to consider. Ultimately, we find ourselves sharing images of these women, who then become targets of negative comments,” she stated.
