The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has issued a warning to the public regarding the need to be careful when sharing information on social media. His statement follows a misleading post that circulated claiming that police had arrested boys selling green coconut juice that was allegedly spiked with drugs.

Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of such an incident made to them. The viral screenshot included an image purporting to show a police officer detaining the boys at Namadi Heights, near Suva. However, local residents who witnessed the event clarified that the boys were actually caught stealing coconuts and breadfruits from neighboring properties.

Driu emphasized that the police would communicate any significant trends or concerns directly to the public and urged everyone to refrain from spreading unverified claims, which could incite unnecessary alarm.

This situation highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it online, especially in a time when misinformation can spread rapidly and cause undue anxiety within the community. By maintaining a cautious approach, individuals can contribute to a more informed and peaceful society.

In a positive light, this incident could serve as a catalyst for greater awareness regarding the responsible use of social media and the crucial role it plays in community safety.
