The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has expressed concern over the rising number of women engaging in confrontations and displaying animosity towards one another on social media. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counselor advocate at FWCC, addressed the issue during a live video on the organization’s social media platform, questioning the underlying causes of these conflicts among women.
Tuitabu explained that these disputes often stem from complicated relationships where a husband or partner becomes involved with another woman. This leads to confrontations between the women, resulting in a public display of hostility online.
She noted that despite the pain they feel, women often defend their partners while directing their anger towards the other woman. “In these conflicts, women tend to prioritize their male partners and unleash hurtful comments on each other,” Tuitabu stated.
She also pointed out that the man in these situations typically remains unaffected and indifferent to the emotional turmoil faced by both women, indicating he is manipulating the circumstances. “When these altercations occur, we must consider who instigated them—the man,” she emphasized.
Tuitabu expressed her dismay at the tendency for the women involved to publicly share images of each other, leading to further vitriol and negativity in the comments.
