Soccer Development Struggles for Support: What’s at Stake?

Soccer development is encountering substantial obstacles as the number of businesses willing to support the sport declines, according to Mohammed Hussain, the coach of Suva.

Hussain highlighted the difficulties districts are facing in securing financial backing from businesses for the ongoing four-day primary schools inter-district competition in Labasa. He noted, “We see there are fewer sponsors when it comes to primary school development or the sport in general.”

In an interview, he mentioned that participating in tournaments like the inter-district competition requires a significant financial investment. “Finding sponsorship for this four-day event has proven to be quite challenging. Funds are necessary for lodging and other related expenses,” he said. This challenge was particularly evident as they prepared for the competition.

He added that a local school in Labasa stepped in to provide accommodation for the participants. “Some of the boys come from underprivileged families, so we have to support them,” he remarked.

The competition is set to conclude tomorrow.
