Fiji Bati winger Maika Sivo has officially signed a three-year contract with the Leeds Rhinos. Sivo, who recently scored two tries in Fiji’s convincing 56-6 victory over the Cook Islands, has now reached a total of 10 tries across eight international matches.
In an interview following his signing announcement, Sivo emphasized the significance of his relationship with Leeds coach Brad Arthur. He joins the Rhinos after a successful stint with the Parramatta Eels in the NRL, where he was known for his scoring prowess. Sivo will reunite with Arthur, who coached him for a decade prior to his current position at Leeds, and he will also be joining an increasing number of Fijian players in the Super League.
Sivo expressed his gratitude for Arthur’s influence on his career, saying, “He is a big part of where I am today, I wouldn’t be here without Brad.” He described how quickly he decided to join Leeds after Arthur reached out to him. “As soon as he messaged, I said ‘yeah, I’m coming.’ He helped me along the way with my footy career and he is very close to my family too.”
The transition marks a new chapter for Sivo, who has spent his entire career with Parramatta. He acknowledged the move as a significant decision but stated that he and his partner were excited about the prospects that lie ahead. “When we talked to Brad, we are excited for the challenge ahead and we are looking forward to it,” Sivo added.
