Bayonne achieved a decisive 37-7 victory over La Rochelle in their Top 14 match at Stade Jean Dauger Stadium yesterday, thanks in part to a spectacular try from Sireli Maqala. Playing as an outside centre, Maqala executed a remarkable length-of-the-field attack that culminated in an impressive dive into the corner to score in the 50th minute.
Bayonne’s dominance was largely established in the first half, where they scored multiple tries from Aurelien Callandret, Facundo Bosch, and Camille Lopez, along with a penalty try. The flyhalf contributed two conversions and a penalty to the team’s score.
La Rochelle managed to score a single try late in the match, with Alexandre Kuntelia crossing the line in the 71st minute and Ihaia West adding the conversion.
