Singh vs. Tonga: A Home Fight with Heart and History

Fiji’s Sebastian Singh, known as “The Sniper,” is gearing up for his highly anticipated fight against “King” Tonga Tongotongo this Saturday. The match will be for the IBO Asia Pacific cruiserweight title and is set to take place at Prince Charles Park. Singh is optimistic that the hard work he and his team have invested will culminate in a successful performance on fight night.

“We’ve trained really hard for this fight, fully aware of the challenges ahead. It’s going to be tough, but we’ve prepared thoroughly,” Singh expressed. The fighter, who has faced more challenging opponents overseas, admits to feeling the pressure, especially since he will be competing on home turf in front of his fellow Fijians.

“Fighting at home is always a different experience,” he acknowledged, adding that the encouragement from the children he mentors, his community, and family fuels his motivation. This bout holds particular importance for Singh, as his father is unwell, and winning the title would be a heartfelt accomplishment for him.

“This fight is not just for me, but also for my dad, my team, and all the kids I work with,” Singh noted. Regarding his approach to the fight, Singh plans to methodically break down his opponent, with the aim of achieving a stoppage in the later rounds.

“I’ve faced fighters with better records before. It’s just another fight. We’ve put in the hard work, and I believe it will show in the ring,” he stated confidently. In addition to vying for the title, Singh is eager to have boxing legend Sonny Bill Williams present as the event’s chief guest.

“I’ve fought on a card organized by Sonny’s team in Australia, and I hope to impress again, opening up more opportunities abroad,” he remarked. Despite the excitement surrounding the fight, Singh remains laser-focused on the task before him.

“I’m not looking past Tonga. Right now, it’s all about this fight. After that, I’ll be ready for whatever comes next,” he concluded. As Singh prepares to step into the ring, fans across Fiji and beyond will be eagerly watching, hoping he can bring pride not only to himself but also to his family, supporters, and the entire nation.
