Silent Poise: Flying Fijians Await FRU Response Amidst Controversy

Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). Following a recent controversy surrounding allegations of mismanagement within the FRU that emerged over a week ago, Nayacalevu revealed that the team has not heard from the organization, despite their attempts to reach out.

In a live podcast with social media influencer Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu mentioned that he had contacted Peter Mazey, the chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board. Nayacalevu stated that Mazey had initially agreed to facilitate a meeting with senior players and the FRU but subsequently became unavailable at the last moment.

“Since then, no one else has reached out to us,” Nayacalevu said, emphasizing the need for dialogue to resolve the ongoing issues. He stressed that accountability and a thorough clean-up are necessary at this time.

Additionally, Nayacalevu noted that several emails have been sent to the FRU regarding unpaid salaries for matches played earlier this year against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
