Inia Seruiratu, the Leader of the Opposition, chaired a meeting of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) during the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) 149th Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland, this week. Seruiratu, who was elected as the IPU SIDS chair in Angola in 2023, brings extensive knowledge and experience in regional and multilateral issues to the role. He participated in the assembly as part of the Fijian Parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. His experience as the Global Climate Champion representing SIDS in the UNFCCC process has prepared him well for this leadership position. Additionally, the participation of Guyana and Jamaica at the meeting for the first time was positively received by fellow SIDS members.
