A 17-year-old boy is among 26 individuals charged last month by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for serious sexual offences. He faces charges of rape and indecent assault against a 15-year-old girl.
In total, 26 people were charged with a combined 70 counts of various sexual offences in August. The charges include 46 counts of rape, three attempts of rape, two counts of abduction with intent to commit rape, five counts of indecent assault, and 14 counts of sexual assault.
Out of the 24 victims involved, 15 were minors under the age of 18. The breakdown revealed two male victims and 22 female victims. There were 12 incidents where the victims and the accused were related.
In one notable case, a 76-year-old man was charged with raping his 8-year-old granddaughter, and a 56-year-old man faced three counts of raping his 16-year-old granddaughter. Additionally, a 40-year-old man was charged with nine counts of raping his 8-year-old daughter.
Other cases include a 72-year-old man, charged with two counts of rape against his 17-year-old stepdaughter, but this case was discontinued following the accused’s death. A 35-year-old man was charged with one count of rape and five counts of sexual assault of his 14-year-old stepdaughter, while a 32-year-old man faced two representative counts of rape against his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Furthermore, a 56-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 13-year-old niece. A 21-year-old man also faced charges for the rape of his 25-year-old niece. Another case involved a 40-year-old man charged with raping and assaulting his 17-year-old niece.
A 37-year-old man faced three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault against his 16-year-old niece, whereas a 31-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 29-year-old wife, though this matter was discontinued after the complainant recanted.
An 18-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 11-year-old cousin. In another case, a 68-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape and one attempted rape against a 25-year-old woman; this case was also discontinued due to the complainant’s uncontactability.
Two 18-year-old men and a 20-year-old man faced charges in connection with five counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and one of sexual assault against a 16-year-old girl. A 22-year-old man was charged with two counts of abduction with intent to commit rape, while a 23-year-old man was charged with raping his 20-year-old girlfriend.
A 19-year-old was charged with the rape and attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl; however, this case was discontinued as the complainant could not be reached. A 53-year-old man faced charges including three counts of rape and one attempted rape against two male victims, aged 25 and 21.
Additionally, a 32-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 20-year-old woman, and a 29-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 16-year-old girl, but both cases were discontinued after the victims admitted to making false complaints. Overall, eight cases were halted after being filed as Nolle Prosequi due to insufficient evidence, the inability to contact victims, or instances of false complaints.
