Shocking Surge in Sexual Offences: 10 Accused, 25 Crimes

In September, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) reported that 10 individuals faced over 25 sexual offence charges. According to the ODPP’s monthly update on serious sexual offences, these charges involved 10 victims, including two males and eight females.

Among the accused is a 20-year-old man who has been charged with raping his 10-year-old male cousin. In another case, a 25-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy. The ODPP noted that six of the incidents involved related victims and offenders.

A significant case involved a 45-year-old man charged with raping his 16-year-old stepdaughter, but this case was later discontinued due to a lack of sufficient evidence. In addition, a 28-year-old man has been charged with raping his five-year-old niece, while a 29-year-old faces two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against his 15-year-old niece.

Another incident involved a 20-year-old man charged with multiple offences against his 17-year-old cousin, including four counts of rape and one count each of attempted rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault. Furthermore, a 29-year-old man was charged with attempted rape and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl from his village, while another 20-year-old was charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl from the same village.

There were also two cases that were discontinued due to insufficient evidence and the inability to contact or locate the victim.
