Shocking Discovery: Students Caught with Marijuana at Suva Athletics Meet

Four primary school students have been referred to the police after they were reportedly caught smoking marijuana during an athletics event in Suva yesterday.

According to Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu, the students were discovered with smoking devices inside a restroom and were initially referred to security personnel at the venue before police involvement.

ACP Driu stated that the parents of the students were informed and given counseling regarding the implications of their children’s actions. He emphasized the importance of parents and guardians engaging in ongoing discussions with their children about the grave consequences associated with illicit drug use.

He warned that without continuous guidance, children might seek advice from individuals who do not prioritize their safety and well-being, potentially steering them onto a harmful path.

In a separate incident, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit conducted a raid in a settlement in Lami yesterday, leading to the arrest of two men who were allegedly found with nearly 100 branches of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

The men were taken into custody, and the substances they possessed have been sent for analysis. Additionally, police made other arrests at various locations, including the Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Labasa bus stand, and Vunivau in Labasa, where individuals were allegedly found with marijuana. All seized substances are currently being analyzed.
