Residents of Newtown, Cuvu, Nadroga are in shock after the body of Ravnit Dass, 32, a mechanic, was found floating in the Cuvu River yesterday.
The grim discovery was made by two farmers working on their plantations next to the river.
Ravnit Dass’s father, Rattan Kumar, 66, shared that the last conversation he had with his son was on Monday.
“He came home on Monday night at about 7 pm, dropped his tools, and said he was going to his friend’s house,” Mr. Kumar said. “That was the last time I heard from him until his body was discovered today.”
Nadroga Navosa Advisory Council chairman Subrail Narayan expressed that the community has suffered a significant loss.
“He used to fix my vehicle. He was smart, hard-working, and had a good heart,” Mr. Narayan said.
Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu indicated that the police were notified around midday.
“Police identified the deceased and further particulars will be known later. Investigations are ongoing,” he stated.
Funeral arrangements will commence after the post-mortem examination.
