A man who sexually abused his daughter multiple times has been sentenced to 13 years in prison, with the requirement that he serve 12 years before being eligible for parole. This sentence was handed down by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu at the High Court in Suva last week.
The 44-year-old was found guilty of two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against his daughter, which took place from December 1, 2017, when she was 15, until December 31, 2020, when she turned 18. The crimes occurred in their home while other family members were sleeping.
The abuse came to light when the girl’s mother inquired if her father had harmed her in any way. Following this revelation, the accused apologized to the family and vowed to cease his actions. However, he resumed the abusive behavior in 2020.
