Shadows of Intimidation: A Changing Landscape in Fijian Politics?

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has confirmed that he met with Francis Puleiwai, the acting deputy commissioner of FICAC, inquiring whether there was any report filed against him. He emphasized that this meeting was not an act of interference or intimidation.

However, public perception remains a critical issue. Many remember former Prime Minister Bainimarama’s approach toward ministers and high-ranking state officials, notably his court appearances in full military uniform, which were regarded as overt forms of intimidation.

In the wake of Bainimarama’s leadership, the nature of intimidation appears to have transformed into a more subtle form, as hinted by Puleiwai’s comments during her interview with ABC.
