A 17-year-old boy is among 26 individuals charged last month by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions with serious sexual offenses. He faces charges of raping and indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl. In total, the 26 people have been charged with 70 counts of sexual offenses.
The charges include 46 counts of rape, three counts of attempted rape, two counts of abduction with intent to commit rape, five counts of indecent assault, and 14 counts of sexual assault. There are 24 victims, 15 of whom are under the age of 18, with the breakdown consisting of two male and 22 female victims. Notably, there are 12 cases where the victims were related to their alleged attackers.
Among the serious cases, a 76-year-old man has been charged with raping his 8-year-old granddaughter, while a 56-year-old man faces three counts of raping his 16-year-old granddaughter. Additionally, a 40-year-old man has been charged with nine counts of raping his 8-year-old daughter. In a separate incident, a 72-year-old man has been charged with two counts of raping his 17-year-old stepdaughter, although this case was discontinued following the death of the accused.
Further charges include a 35-year-old man charged with one count of rape and five counts of sexual assault against his 14-year-old stepdaughter, and a 32-year-old man charged with two counts of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter. A 56-year-old man is facing two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 13-year-old niece, while a 21-year-old man is charged with raping his 25-year-old niece.
In another case, a 40-year-old man is charged with two counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault against his 17-year-old niece. A 37-year-old man also faces three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault of his 16-year-old niece. Conversely, a 31-year-old man charged with raping his 29-year-old wife saw his case discontinued after the complainant recanted her statement.
An 18-year-old man is charged with raping his 11-year-old cousin. There is also an incident involving a 68-year-old man charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape of a 25-year-old woman; however, this case was discontinued as the complainant could not be reached.
Additionally, two 18-year-old men and a 20-year-old man have been charged with multiple counts of rape and assault against a 16-year-old girl. A 22-year-old man faces two counts of abduction with intent to commit rape involving a 16-year-old girl, previously in a relationship with her at the time of the offenses. Separately, a 23-year-old man is charged with raping his 20-year-old girlfriend, while a 19-year-old man is charged with the rape and attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl; this case was also discontinued due to the unavailability of the victim.
In another case, a 53-year-old man faces multiple charges of rape and assault involving two young men. Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man has been charged with raping a 20-year-old woman. Similarly, a 29-year-old man is charged with raping a 16-year-old girl, but both of these cases were discontinued following the victims’ admissions of false accusations.
In total, eight cases were discontinued due to various reasons, including insufficient evidence, inability to contact victims, or false complaints.
