Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 2:37 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN WARNING has been issued for the interior and western parts of Viti Levu, stretching from Momi through Nadi, all the way to Ba and Rakiraki. If you’re thinking about going outside, the weather might just decide to shower you with affection (and a lot of water).
But wait, there’s more! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in effect for the interior and eastern regions of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, and those charming smaller islands in between. If you’re nearby, feel free to refer to the Special Weather Bulletin for the juicy details, which you can find at the National Weather Forecasting Center’s website.
Additionally, a FLASH FLOOD ALERT is active for those sneaky little streams and low-lying areas in the interior and eastern regions of Viti Levu and parts of Vanua Levu. You know who you are. If you want to keep your toes dry, check out more in the special bulletin available online.
The situation is that an indecisive trough of low pressure is hanging around just north of Fiji, contemplating whether to drift south later today or just chill where it is. Meanwhile, moist winds are blowing in from the southeast to southwest, promising an exciting mix of weather.
Here’s what to expect for the Fiji group through midnight tomorrow: Occasional rain—heavy at times—and a few unexpected thunderstorms that might just crash your outdoor plans. This is especially true for the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti group, as well as the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands. The rain should ease to mere showers tomorrow (but no guarantees there).
Elsewhere, enjoy the fine weather—unless you encounter afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms that come complete with heavy falls.
Moderate southeast to southwest winds will keep things breezy and seas will be moderate as well.
Looking ahead to Friday: Expect cloudy periods and the possibility of some showers with localized heavy downpours, particularly over Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, and various parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, and those cute smaller islands we love.
In the Navua/Suva/Nausori area, expect occasional rainfall, with thunderstorms making a guest appearance. Rain will likely ease up to just showers tomorrow.
For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: It’s looking fine, with only the occasional afternoon shower or thunderstorm expected.
Now let’s check in with various locales:
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Occasional rain is in the cards, so keep the waterproof gear handy.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Similar story, expect some thundery moments even if the skies look fine.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Rain will be making its return, but just when you thought it was over.
– Labasa and Savusavu: You guessed it, occasional rain and maybe a few thunderstorms to keep things interesting.
– Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Expect the usual suspects—occasional rain and thunderstorms.
Oh, and let’s not forget about Rotuma! A STRONG WIND WARNING remains in place. With winds averaging 50 km/hr and rough seas to boot, it seems like the weather is in no mood to play nice!
So gear up for some weather adventures, stay safe and dry, and remember—the skies might be cloudy, but tomorrow’s forecast comes with a chance of smiles!
