Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across Fiji Group

Weather Update

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A hefty downpour is still making itself at home across most of the Fiji group, so pack your raincoats and gumboots or you might find yourself singing “Singing in the Rain” on the way to work! Good news for our coastal pals in Lau and Lomaiviti, though—your coastal inundation alert has been canceled.

What’s brewing over our lovely islands, you ask? A sneaky trough of low pressure is lurking just to the west, bringing along a parade of clouds with enough rain to make even a duck quack in excitement. Expect the skies to let loose with some heavy rain and squally thunderstorms, especially in the western and northern regions of Fiji, spreading like gossip to the rest of the group later today. But fear not, the rain will be taking a breather from the west by tomorrow!

Winds will be moderate, nosing around from the northeast and getting a little spunky at times. If you’re caught under one of those thunderstorms, you might find yourself in a gusty situation – just remember, it’s nature’s way of giving your hair that “I just battled a storm” look. Seas will be moderate to rough, so if you’re looking to hop on a boat, be ready for a bit of a roller coaster!

Here’s what’s on the weather menu for Saturday: more occasional rain (heavy at times), and a side dish of thunderstorms for Lau and Lomaiviti. As the day wears on, the rain will lighten up into some brief showers. The rest of the gang, including Kadavu, Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua, can expect a mix of cloudy periods and brief showers, but don’t worry, you’ll be able to chill at night—coolness is on the horizon!

For those in Navua, Suva, and Nausori, it’s more of the cloudy charm with some showers throughout the day, and don’t be surprised if those thunderstorms make an appearance later!

As for the Coral Coast and Sigatoka, it’s heavy rain and thunderstorms for you. But don’t fret—Saturday is promising fine weather with a dash of coolness come nightfall.

The same soggy story continues for Tavua, Rakiraki, Labasa, Savusavu, and the Yasawa/Mamanuca group—heavy rain and the odd thunderstorm are in the forecast. Saturday shines brighter, offering a chance for some fine weather and calm nights ahead.

For Rotuma, it’s a strong wind warning with gusty easterlies making an entrance. While rough seas are expected, you might still spot some sunny spells, but make sure to keep an eye on those brief showers that might crash the party later on.

So, there you have it! Grab your umbrella and your sense of humor; it looks to be another adventure in Fiji weather.
