The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall in the eastern regions of Viti Levu. Areas affected include Nuku to Deuba, Suva, Buretu, Korovou, Dawasamu, Nakarotubu, Nalawa, Navatusila, Naikoro, and other interior locations.
The agency has indicated that these regions are likely to experience heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. Residents are advised to avoid areas prone to flooding, such as creeks and drains, and to refrain from walking, biking, or driving through flooded areas. Additionally, it’s recommended that people unplug electronic devices and appliances, stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets inside for their safety.
The Weather Office emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant and monitoring weather conditions as a trough of low pressure moves slowly over eastern parts of the islands, expected to affect the region until tomorrow before gradually moving eastward.
In light of this warning, it’s important for communities to come together and ensure safety measures are well understood and followed. This scenario urges residents to prepare for potential disruptions while also highlighting the resilience of the community as they navigate the challenges posed by adverse weather.
