The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall affecting the eastern regions of Viti Levu. Areas impacted include Nuku to Deuba, Suva, Buretu, Korovou, Dawasamu, Nakarotubu, Nalawa, Navatusila, Naikoro, and other parts of Viti Levu’s interior.
The Weather Office has indicated that residents in these areas can expect intense rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution, advising them to avoid flooded creeks and drains and refraining from walking, cycling, or driving through floodwaters.
Furthermore, individuals are recommended to unplug electronic devices, remain indoors, away from windows, and keep children and pets safe indoors. The Weather Office emphasizes the importance of vigilance and monitoring of weather conditions.
The warning arises from a low-pressure trough that is slowly advancing over the eastern portions of the country, with expectations that it will continue to impact the area until tomorrow before gradually moving eastwards.
In light of the storm, it’s encouraging to see that the community is being urged to stay informed and prepared, which can help mitigate risks associated with severe weather conditions. Local residents can take proactive measures to safeguard themselves and their families during this weather event.
