The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall affecting the eastern regions of Viti Levu. This warning encompasses areas from Nuku to Deuba, including Suva, Buretu, Korovou, Dawasamu, Nakarotubu, Nalawa, Navatusila, Naikoro, and various interior locations on the island.

The Weather Office has indicated that residents in these regions should prepare for significant rainfall, as well as potential thunderstorms and lightning activity. They emphasize the importance of safety, urging individuals to avoid flooded creeks and drains and to refrain from walking, biking, or driving through floodwaters. Additionally, residents are advised to disconnect electrical appliances, stay indoors and away from windows, and ensure that children and pets remain indoors.

The Weather Office also stresses the need for vigilance, advising the public to stay informed about the evolving conditions. This is due to a trough of low pressure that is currently moving slowly across the eastern areas and is expected to continue impacting parts of Fiji until tomorrow, before gradually drifting eastward away from the islands.

In light of these weather warnings, it’s a good time for communities to come together and support one another. Staying informed and prepared can help mitigate risks associated with severe weather.

Overall, while the situation may seem daunting, the proactive measures and vigilance of both authorities and the community can ensure safety and minimize potential disruptions.
