A 79-year-old man has been indicted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on charges of alleged rape and indecent assault of a 13-year-old.

According to the ODPP’s Rape and Sexual Offences Statistics for June 2024, there was an incident where a 59-year-old man was accused of raping and sexually assaulting his 15-year-old niece.

A forty-year-old man, in a separate case, faced charges for allegedly raping his 19-year-old niece. Similarly, a 33-year-old man was indicted on charges of raping his 15-year-old niece.

In another circumstance, the ODPP reported that a 42-year-old man was arraigned on charges of raping his 42-year-old wife. However, due to inadequate evidence, the case was abandoned.

Further, a 20-year-old man was charged with raping an 11-year-old. In another incident, a 38-year-old man faced accusations of raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl from his village.

There was also an incident where an 18-year-old man stood accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The ODPP disclosed that four particular cases were dismissed after filing for discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi), attributing it to factors like insufficient or inconsistent evidence, inability to reach or locate victims, or death of the accused.
