Santiago Gomez Cora, the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast ambassador, will be unable to attend the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical restrictions following an emergency surgery. The Argentina sevens head coach has been advised by his doctor to refrain from traveling for at least a month.
In a statement made on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page, organizers extended their best wishes for Santiago’s swift recovery and expressed hope to see him return to Fiji in 2026.
As for the tournament itself, the Fiji 7s team will compete in Pool A alongside New Zealand Sevens 2, Tuva, and Brothers. Pool B features New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. Additionally, Pool C includes BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Pool D is made up of the Aussie Select 7s, McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, Devo Babas, and Taikita Brothers 7s.
This year’s Coral Coast 7s promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the talented teams from across the globe while underlining the community’s support for Santiago during his recovery.
Overall, while the absence of Santiago Gomez Cora is unfortunate, it highlights the importance of health and wellness, offering a reminder that recovery is a priority. Fans and teams alike can look forward to a thrilling tournament as they come together to celebrate the spirit of rugby.
