Native leaseholders with outstanding lease arrears totaling $2.6 million have been given an ultimatum to settle their debts or face publication of their names in the media. The iTaukei Lands Trust Board (TLTB) has addressed this notice to tenants in the Central and Eastern divisions.
“Tenants whose leases fall under the specified townships are urged to take immediate action to resolve their arrears. We encourage you to visit our offices and consult with our arrears recovery teams regarding part payments if full payment is not feasible,” TLTB stated.
The notice emphasized that if arrears are not cleared by October 1st, 2024, names will be published in print media outlets. “To avoid this action, we strongly advise all leaseholders to address their outstanding payments as soon as possible.”
