Serving Hope: How Hanua Two is Changing Lives Through Volleyball

The Hanua Two team is actively participating in the 2024-2025 Suva Volleyball Pre-Knockout Tournament, aiming to engage young people in volleyball and steer them away from criminal activities.

In their recent match at the National Netball Centre in Suva, the team secured a victory over the Tamavua Bulls Two, winning in two sets. Comprising Rotuman youths from the Raiwai community, the team is led by standout player Shane Kitione, who also formed the team.

Kitione expressed that the team’s primary goal is to inspire young players to step beyond their usual environments and participate in larger competitions to gain recognition. He emphasized the importance of encouraging these youths to try new experiences, as many have only participated in local suburban games and lack exposure to broader tournaments.

He further noted that engaging in the sport provides an opportunity to foster an environment free from illicit substances and alcohol. “All the team’s focus is to win, but not just to win the tournament, but to win our children away from drugs and alcohol,” he stated.

In conclusion, Kitione called on the team’s supporters to strengthen their spiritual awareness by embracing their faith. “Knowing the Lord Jesus is better than anything else to know in the world,” he remarked.

The tournament will continue next weekend.
