The Health Ministry is actively addressing health issues in the Serua Province, particularly focusing on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), with 11 active reported cases identified in the area.
This was highlighted by the Rural and Maritime Development Assistant Minister, Jovesa Vocea, during the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty celebrations held in Serua.
Minister Vocea urged villagers to remain alert and enhance their understanding of the consequences of drug use, which can lead to a rise in social issues including crime, domestic violence, sexual assault, and the spread of HIV and AIDS.
He emphasized that combating these challenges cannot be a solitary effort and called for open discussions, sharing of best practices, and collective experiences to work towards eliminating poverty.
Vocea pointed out that drug-related issues hinder societal progress, affecting the youth, noting that over the past two years, there have been two instances of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one case of unlawful cultivation of such drugs in Serua.
