Waisale Serevi, renowned as the King of Sevens, is set to join Sireli Bobo’s coaching team for the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 squad ahead of an upcoming tour to New Zealand this month. The FSC made the announcement as the team began its preparations for the tour, highlighting Serevi’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
Serevi’s involvement comes after a meeting with FSC’s acting CEO, Gilbert Vakalalabure, where it was confirmed that he is eager to share his extensive knowledge and experience with the young players. The FSC expressed enthusiasm, noting that Serevi will bring invaluable passion and wisdom to the coaching staff, enhancing the development of Fiji’s future rugby stars.
The team was chosen following the FSC U20 sevens series, which spanned across five venues, starting in Navua and concluding at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium. Bobo emphasized the team’s objective of fostering player development, especially from grassroots levels, to ensure they can perform at high-stakes competitions.
With the departure scheduled for January 29, the inclusion of Serevi is expected to significantly benefit the young athletes as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead. This initiative shines a hopeful light on the future of Fijian rugby, as legendary figures like Serevi play a crucial role in mentoring the next generation.
Overall, the collaboration is set to invigorate the players while fostering a sense of pride in Fijian rugby heritage.
