Senior Golfers Tee Off in Exciting Fiji Open

The 42nd Swire Shipping Fiji Senior Golfer’s Association Open kicked off yesterday at the renowned Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa. A total of 45 experienced golfers participated, all eager to showcase their skills on the picturesque course.

Among the competitors was Rajesh Prasad, who traveled from Natadola and expressed his excitement to be part of the tournament. Though he remained humble about his past performances, Prasad noted that this was his fourth or fifth tournament, and his passion for golf has only intensified since the pandemic break.

“I wasn’t even near winning before, but I will try my best today,” Prasad stated with a sense of determination.

The weather in Vatuwaqa has been favorable for the participants, creating a familiar and comfortable atmosphere. Preparing for this tournament required significant effort from Prasad and the others, who had been training for weeks.

“I traveled all the way from Sigatoka this morning,” he mentioned.

Prasad is particularly confident in his short game, describing it as the area where he feels most at ease on the course. Despite the tough competition featuring many seasoned golfers, his main focus is to enjoy the game and give his best performance.

For senior golfers like Prasad, events like this are about more than just winning; they also emphasize the joy of playing, socializing, and promoting mental and physical well-being.

“Golf is a mental game,” he remarked.

This event has provided a competitive yet enjoyable atmosphere for the senior golfing community, reinforcing that age is no limit to one’s passion for the sport.
