“Seema: Shedding Light on Domestic Violence Through Film”

Seema, a film directed by Sabrina Khan, a British-born human rights lawyer from Fiji, aims to highlight important social issues and inspire change through its artistic expression. The film is inspired by the biblical verse in Proverbs 31:8, which urges individuals to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” and it focuses on the complex realities of domestic violence.

This project is particularly personal for Ms. Khan, who is a survivor of domestic violence herself. Seema serves as a poignant platform for raising awareness about this pressing issue. The film sheds light on the devastating effects of domestic violence and highlights alarming statistics related to the crisis.

“Domestic violence statistics have gotten worse for women. I believe we can’t create enough awareness because it’s getting worse globally,” Ms. Khan stated. She hopes that the film will ignite essential discussions, raise awareness worldwide, and help in breaking the cycle of violence.

Filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, Seema features lead actress Reena Shah alongside Australian actor Morrison James.
