Seema, a film directed by Sabrina Khan, a British-born human rights lawyer from Fiji, aims to highlight significant social issues and inspire change through its artistic expression.
Inspired by the biblical verse in Proverbs 31:8, which urges individuals to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” Seema explores the intricate realities of domestic violence. This film is particularly personal for Khan, a survivor of domestic violence herself, and serves as a vital platform to generate awareness about this pressing issue.
The movie depicts the effects of domestic violence and emphasizes alarming statistics surrounding the crisis. “Domestic violence statistics have worsened for women. I don’t believe we can create enough awareness because it’s escalating globally,” stated Khan.
Khan aspires for the film to ignite important discussions, enhance global awareness, and aid in breaking the cycle of violence. Set and filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, Seema features performances from lead actress Reena Shah and Australian actor Morrison James.
